Big things are happening in the world of Los Angeles Architectural Design. The Architecture + Design Museum had announced their move to the Arts District sometime ago, it seemed that their short term two year lease had professionals wondering what would intel for the museum's future. Once the A+D Museum lease was up, they were hoping to move again into a new building that would also house the American Institute of Architects' Los Angeles chapter, the AIA/LA, and a much anticipated Center for Architecture and Urban Design Los Angeles (CALA), they’re a non profit "design commons."
Los Angeles Architectural Design Centers
Nicci Solomons, who is the Executive Director of the AIA/LA and the Executive Director of CALA, had spoken to a magazine about what the next couple of years will look like for each institutions.
The A+D Museum looked forward to moving into its Arts District location on Fourth Street. After it opened its doors, the A+D Museum's Arts District hosted some programming for CALA, although at the time they may not had a permanent home, CALA's still lead a Downtown walking tour and hoped to do more event lineup as they expanded.
Solomons stated that once the A+D settled, the three organizations would start a joint campaign to fundraise for its future, a shared home, out of which all three entities would operate. CALA and the AIA/LA seems like, for now, to have found a home in a 20,000 square foot space around the Downtown LA area, although back in 2015 Solomons stated they hadn’t decided on a space yet.
Three Entities Together
The new, triple threat for Los Angeles Architectural Design back in 2015 was set to open its doors as soon as 2017. Solomons also stated that the goal was to have the space ready as soon as the A+D Museum's lease would be up, so that in order for the Los Angeles Architectural Design centers could open immediately and shift into their shared building, though that does depend on the space, and how much work is required to make it suitable for all three Los Angeles Architectural Design centers.
